ZigBee remote control system for advanced interactions with TVs, set-top boxes and game consoles
Texas Instruments has introduced its ZigBee RF4CE remote control system with support for the upcoming ZID (ZigBee input device) profile. The remote control system enables mouse-like pointing functionality, keyboard and gesture- and touch-based input controls for consumer electronics such as TVs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and game consoles. The remote control system includes the RemoTI 1.3 protocol stack with sample application software, an ETSI-compliant and FCC-certified nano USB module, and an associated advanced remote control development kit. Together with the company’s CC253x 802.15.4 RF-IC radios, the system allows quick delivery of advanced remote control devices, says the company. The CC253x offers pin-to-pin compatibility with the company’s Bluetooth low energy CC254x SoC, enabling future-proofed designs that easily implement both standards, claims the company. The remote control system features non-line-of-sight operation, two-way wireless communications, and PC-based tools for development and test. It supports Movea SmartMotion firmware and measures 9.5x16.6mm.
